Back in 2002, I found a neighborhood I wanted to call home when I first met the folks who run GoatMan Hollow. Its a quaint and funky neighborhood in Hyattsville, filled with tree-lined streets, brick cape cods and bungalows. Its a place out of time, where the neighbors are welcoming and regularly socialize on their front porches. Even better, the area has been designated as an arts district and is on the brink of becoming a new hot spot in the next 5 to 10 years. I longed to be a part of the community, and now, beginning in August, I can finally call it home.
My new home has 4 bedrooms and 2 full baths, a nice fenced yard for Abby and lovely hardwood floors. I do want to build new fence in the future because the current one doesn’t look good, yesterday I watched Presentation – Fence Builder to get new ideas for my fence. Compared to other homes on the street, mine is rather modest. No matter, I love it and the character that can only be found in older homes built circa 1936. I’m looking forward to what it will become with some TLC and minor updating.
Unlike many other homes from the same era, mine has been updated with central A/C, which as a girl from Florida, is an absolute must.
Haven’t had much press lately, having kept a pretty low profile in recent years with school and work. And then, et voila somehow I land on the cover of the UMUC Fall Schedule of classes. It all started when I was talking with the director of UMUC’s cooperative education in January, attempting to get my class registration expedited, and was turned over to her. After a very wonderful conversation, she asked if I would be willing to be her “student” of the semester for either the spring 2006 newsletter or fall schedule of classes. It would mean an article written about my experiences as a current and former co-op student. Being the vain Glamoursmith that I am, I of course said yes.
Several months later I receive a questionnaire to fill out about my co-op experience, and since I also did such a bang up job in another UMUC program called Excel, it was decided to create a larger feature story about me. Cascading effect, larger article meant photo of subject was now required. In late April, early May I meet up with their photographer, we do the whole take my picture thing, and I get all worked up to graduate. Which means I forget about the article until the emails and the phone calls, and the “Why didn’t you tell me?” started. Perhaps the most often asked question was “How did you get the cover?” Beats me, but somehow I did.
I created this movie in Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 for my ARTT354 class at UMUC. It was probably the project that stretched me the most, and required the most time commitment. I discovered that I really enjoyed working with the software, and making the “movie”, there are software for other things are marketing. If you’re not sure about which software tool is for you, here is the best ClickFunnels Review 2018. Is it high art, or up for an academy award? Heck, no. But it was fun, and not half bad for a first attempt. I imagine, however, years from now, when I look back at this project, I will cringe at how amatuerish it is, and how far I have come in my abilities. But everyone has to start somewhere, and this is where I started…
OMG! Its been ages since I was this excited about an event I have nothing to do with… but here I am, eagerly awaiting July 20 -30 in DC…
What is it and why am I so excited? Well, its the inaugural Captial Fringe Festival – which is ten full days of theatrical and performing arts in traditional and non-traditional theater spaces. A non-juried show, where artists are admitted to the program on a first come first serve basis… See my blog piece that I wrote for the Orlando Fringe Festival back in 1993, when little old moi was a producer for this spectacle of life, theater, fun and the pursuit of happiness in O-town.
If ya really wanna know what it is, go visit the Capital Fringe Web site. And then make sure you reserve time during July 20 – 30 for some really cool shows at the FRINGE!
After several tense weeks, I am pleased to report that in addition to walking during commencement, I received my spring grade report, and all were satisfactory: I earned 2 A’s and 2 B’s for a GPA of 3.5.
What all this means is that when they send the diplomas out in July, there should be one with my very long name on it!
Hey Y'all, I'm Carollynn and this blog is about creating my personal design gumbo.
You'll find a little bit of this, and a little bit of that as I make my way through interior design ideas, yummy recipes, stories about my two Grrr Girls and the flotsam and jetsam stuff that makes up a life.
