Just in time for those New Years resolutions, I recently found an online article, How
to Come to Terms With Feeling Ugly. Its pretty much the opposite of the credo espoused by Fernando – “It is better to look good than to feel good.” from SNL in the 80’s (played by Billy Crystal).
Both interesting stuff for different reasons. 🙂
December 2005 Recap: (Or my essay titled: “What I did in December”)
I know it doesn’t seem like much, but I was really, really, REALLY busy this month with final projects, mid-term and final exams, parties and travel to warm locales.
- At Weight Watchers I maintained my goal weight for 6 weeks and am now considered
a lifetime member unless I go over the 2 pound limit. Keep your fingers and
toes crossed that the brownies, cookies, etc. I scarfed while in FL did not
make a dent in the current weight! - Successfully completed 3 of my last 8 classes and for my efforts, I received
2 A’s and a B (Programming in Visual Basic.NET- it figures, right?) Am still in class #4 until
February 10. Count down to graduation is on…May 13 here I come! - This year I did not have time to make and send my annual Abby and me holiday
photo cards. Strangely enough, this year I receive cards from folks I never
receive cards from – go figure. Guess all those years of sending cards finally
guilted the recipients. - Went to Florida for Christmas – it was warm – -well, okay, warmer than here.
Christmas eve and Christmas day it was in the low 70’s, I swear! - Had a ball in FL with Susan, Brian and Nicholas, and loved every minute
of being "Aunt Carollynn".
What’s been happening with you this month?
Last night was the first night, in ages (since September, at least or was it two weeks last May?) that I did not have homework of some sort hanging over my head. Had a nice girls night out dinner, and then came home and did N-O-T-H-I-N-G. I joined the rest of couch potato America, and sat there, watching the LOST rerun, and falling a sleep.
I have to say, it was nice to just veg out for one night.
by Carollynn on 9 December 2005 A dear friend passed this morning at 1 am, he was young, by everybody’s standards
– he’d just celebrated his 5th birthday (his 35th in dog
years) on November 17th. He came into this world with a little less
than most – missing some toes on his hind paws and only one testicle, but all
in all, he was a big (130 lbs.!) sweet boy, golden haired and golden eyed, with a warm, trusting, mischievous personality that endeared people and animals alike to him. He loved to play ball and tug ‘o war with his rope toy, he loved strawberry ice cream, hot dogs and pancakes — all the things that just aren’t good for a dog. He was the apple of his “father’s” eye, and the best “little brother” a guy could have. His reluctant girlfriend will miss his attempts to make him notice her.
It was discovered very late yesterday that Buddy had cancer, and had less than a 10% chance of surviving, and so in loving kindness, he was allowed to seek his eternal sleep. So I say a sad farewell to Buddy, the yellow Lab. You will be missed.
Everyonce in a while, a phrase comes along that strikes my fancy, and it seems so appropo for certain situations. For example, a few years ago, many men seemed to be enamored of the Budweiser call: Whaaaaaaazzzuuup. To me, and many other women, it was annoying and rather juvenile. No matter, it was “THE” buzz phrase for many occassions, although, you can be sure, it was never heard coming out of my mouth, but I digress…
This summer, our (me, Delegatrix, and Ziggy) favorite phrase was taken from a Toyota commercial where two kids were in the Toyota crash lab with ‘Bob’, a safety engineer, crashing, what else? Toyota vehicles. The kids had such a ball, and really got into the whole smash ’em up thing. A kid says “Do the gold one, Bob!” And Bob says “It’s Desert Sand Mica!”. And the kid says “Whatever, just crash it!”
“Whatever, just crash it!” became our mantra when people went on and on, and could not make a decision. Four words, very effective and sure to put a smile on our faces.
Our latest favorite phrase was embraced on my birthday. While out to dinner, we decided a phrase by Cartman of South Park fame was the perfect way to end the day, and evening, what have you. What is that phrase we’ve adopted? Glad you asked, its an elegant little 6 word phrase, that says it all:
Screw you guys, I’m goin’ home…
Hmm, wonder what the new crop of holiday ads will spawn…
Not an especially imaginative list, I know, but it is important to give thanks, no matter what!
- My last Fall semester at UMUC – I graduate next May!
- Making the Deans List for the Spring 2005 semester
- My new digs – much larger and more usable space than the old one.
- My wonderful friends who helped me move – it really was a labor of, well, …friendship
- GoatMan Hollow -I appreciate it even more because it existed only as a state of mind this year
- Abby – she just keeps getting better with age.
- My family – met up at a wedding in October, and we had such a blast
- My Florida family – where would I be with out y’all?
- My friends, near and far, old and new – without you, my life would be –bor -ing and not worth living
Thank you everyone for making an appearance in my life this year. I am so grateful for your friendship.
